That’s the most dangerous place to build a house. Can fall on top you in your sleep or worse an earthquake easily make it fall..

First it's a cabin and he don't live there permanently, second they are small trees that will grow back very quickly, third the trees he used to build the cabin will hold up the rock, fourth did you see how big the rock is and how far up it goes on solid ground? I can imagine this shelter come crashing down in the next two years. Either mudslide or that heavy rock sags down, crushes your poles. Also since the large rock is slanted downward, rain will cascade into your structure.
