The disco era of the end of the 70s and debut of the 80s was simply magical fun and feel good music !
The lyrics to Fly Robin Fly! is based on an award winning novel I wrote.
Awesome dance songs.
50 years since 1975. I was in grade school, but was heavy into Saturday morning cartoons, bike rides around the neighborhood, pretending I was O.J. Simpson when playing football with neighborhood friends.
....a few BIG ones missing - the incomparably-INFECTIOUS Shirley & Company VAMP "Shame, Shame, Shame", Rufus & Chaka Khan's STUNNING "Once You Get Started" - among the BEST female vocals EVER committed to tape, the Blackbyrds' "Walkin' In Rhythm", Ben E. King's comeback hit "Supernatural Thing", Barry White's "You're The First, The Last, My Everything"; EWF's "Shining Star", ARGUABLY Wings' "Listen To What The Man Said" & Chicago's "Old Days", B.T. Express' "Express", Ace Spectrum's "Keep Holdin' On", Spinners' "They Can't Stop It (Games People Play)" Donna Summer's first BIG record "Love To Love You Baby", Ohio Players' VERY unique-sounding "Love Rollercoaster", and the Four Seasons "Who Loves You" - might add Leon Haywood's "I Want'a Do Something Freaky To You" as WELL.....a BIT surprised note WASN'T made of "Never Can Say Goodbye" having been written by NONE other than 'That's My Mama!' & 'Amen' star Clifton Davis.....
Hustle number #1
0:57 : "Fly, Robin, Fly" is a song for the dancefloor. Therefore the lyrics do not matter.
I love disco and all these songs! But Earth Wind & Fire’s “Sing A Song” was not disco, according to member Philip Bailey, who said their only disco song was “Boogie Wonderland.” You sped it up. You mispronounced Tavares four times. I was just exercising to the 1975 disco album by South Shore Commission. You did not mention them. “The Hustle” by Van McCoy and the Soul City Smphony is probably my favorite.
5:13 What's the name of the saxophone player who contributed a memorable solo?
.....additionally, Van's follow-up to "The Hustle" - "Change With The Times", may be even BETTER; ditto Tony Camillo's (& 'Bazuka'? Not sure) to 'Dynomite", the Chicago-influenced "Love Explosion".....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHwV60iJr2g
never listened to that stuff or stepped in a disco. watching this remember why
