Can we stop pretending like USL D1 is competing against the Premier League. It’s MLS. I’ve watched MLS for over two decades and they looked amateur through 15 of those years and only recently starting to look decent. Not good. Not average. Just decent. MLS is not a global nor even a nationally respected league. The only thing that makes MLS truly interesting is Messi. He is their main and ONLY attraction. This is the same league that played a major role in the USMNT being eliminated from 2017 FIFA World Cup qualifications because they wanted to pretend they are already elite by buying up our best national team players from European leagues while clashing with our coach because he would not feed into their illusions. All those players declined quickly in MLS where the national team had to rely heavily on a teenage rookie Pulisic. MLS did not try to market itself as a selling league until after the backlash. They are not and may never will be elite. It’s a shitty sports entertainment league.
