Every time I critique Genshin’s storytelling or gameplay, there will be people in the comments saying the same thing: “it’s just a gacha game, what do you expect?”

While some say it’s best to ignore the comments, in my experience people often make good points. Even when I disagree with their premise, the discussions they spark can be fascinating, and it’s always important to be open to having your mind changed.

But while I am, of course, open to being persuaded on this, I absolutely think that this perspective is objectively a bad thing.

So why do some people engage in critique, while others try to make a stand against it? Does one side have unrealistically high expectations? Are the other side giving huge corporations a pass even at their own expense?

Is there even a point in having these discussions in the first place?
