In this video, I will briefly summarise the two tales, then discuss the mind-body dualism in European philosophy, arguing that Hamlet and Don Quixote represent two ends a spectrum of humans as discussed by Turgenev. I will also discuss the influence of these two characters on Russian literature, namely the superfluous Hamlet type personality and Dostoevsky’s anti-intellectualism. I will also discuss how modern education system, which is a product of Anglo-Saxon type of capitalism, has turned us all into a Hamlet-type personality, in that we mostly live in our head.
