Peugeot has unveiled the new B-segment 208 model, the successor to the 207.

The 208 has been made lighter and more efficient than its predecessor - with the curb weight of the entry-level variant coming in as low as 975 kg (2145 lbs). It's also more aerodynamic with a Cd quotient of 0.29. Leg-room for rear passengers has been improved by 5 cm (2 inches) and trunk space is larger too.

CO2 emissions will be 34 g/km on average less than on the 207. Peugeot will also be applying its e-HDi technology, with a stop/start system, on nearly all diesel variants. The 208 will be introducing a new range of three-cylinder petrol engines too - a 1.0 liter VTi and a 1.2 liter VTi.

The Peugeot 208 goes on sale in Europe in the spring of 2012 with the U.K. launch following in the summer.
