》Gupt Godavari
Gupt Godavari is counted amongst the most interesting places to visit in Uttar Pradesh. It is both a natural wonder and a place of immense spiritual significance. Like all the other famous tourist attractions in Chitrakoot, there is a fascinating mythological tale behind it.
Located at a distance of about 18 km from the district of Chitrakoot, this place is held in the highest respect by devotees. According to the Hindu mythological epic, Ramayana, it was here that Lord Rama and Lord Laxmana stayed for some time during their exile for 14 years. There are two cave systems inside the mountain, while the water inside them is filled up to the knees.
》Janki Kund
Janki Kund (a small tank or reservoir) is located about 2 km from Ram Ghat, another famous tourist attraction of Chitrakoot. Janki is another name for Goddess Sita and this place has been named after her. There are two temples located just behind the kund, namely, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Shree Raghuvir Temple. Across the kund lies the Pramod Van, whose presence plays a big role in enhancing the tranquillity of the place.
》Sphatik Shila
The district of Chitrakoot in the state of Uttar Pradesh is dotted with numerous religious sites, temples and other places of immense religious significance. Sphatik Shila, situated on the banks of River Mandakini, is one of those places. What is called Sphatik Shila is in fact two enormous boulders which are believed to contain the footprints of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. As a tourist, this place is great if you are looking for a place to relax and get away from the commotion of everyday life.
There are many reasons why Sphatik Shila is regarded amongst the most religious tourist attractions in Chitrakoot. Besides containing their footprints, it was from this place that they enjoyed the beauty of Chitrakoot. The beauty, undoubtedly, captivates you immediately. The jungle enveloping the river lends it a serene appearance which is nothing short of a visual treat.
There is an interesting mythology associated with this religious site in Chitrakoot. It is said that one day Lord Rama was seated at this spot along with Goddess Sita and Laxmana (Rama’s brother) and was engaged in making garlands for her. Just then, Jayant, the son of Lord Indra, appeared on the scene disguised as a crow and pecked at her feet.
》Kamadgiri Hill
Kamadgiri Hill is one of the most revered places in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Pilgrims to this religious site often perform a circumambulation to receive blessings. Situated in the southern part of the state, it is the holiest place in Chitrakoot Dham. Like most of the religious places in India, it is associated with several mythological legends. It is a Sanskrit word which means "one that fulfills all desires". There is a pilgrimage path enveloping this hill, whose distance is about 5 km approx. Devotees believe that all the teerthas, or, holy places, lie along the religious route. The principal deity of Chitrakoot is Lord Kamtanath. There are many temples dedicated to Lord Kamtanath apart from the main temple.
Several mythological legends revolve around this temple. According to one of them, the Kamadgiri Mountain is accorded the highest importance because it was here that Lord Brahma performed the first yagna before the creation of life (shristi). According to various mythological sources, this was the place where Lord Rama and Goddess Sita spend twelve years of their exile. Tourists who have visited this popular tourist destination in Uttar Pradesh say that it exudes a spiritual aura. A large part of this can also be attributed to the amazing landscape of this place, which is characterized by dense forests and vegetation.
