Superstition, Magic, and Sabbath Work — Catechism Answers w/ Dr. Scott Sollom (October 9, 2023)

Have questions about the Catechism? We have answers!

💬 Today, Dr. Sollom will be answering the following questions:

1. "Why were there 6 precepts of the Church in the Baltimore Catechism, but only 5 in the CCC?"
2. "When it comes to things like scapulars, Saint Benedict medals, Miraculous medals, relics, etc., how do we ensure we're using them faithfully and not superstitiously? What about the practice of burying a St. Joseph statue in the yard of the house to make it sell faster?"
3. "To honor the precept of the Church about the Sabbath, am I allowed to do laundry? Cook for my family? Work outside the home?"
4. "When I was little, eating meat on a Friday was a mortal sin. If the Church can change that, why can't she change things like the teaching on marriage?"
5. "I know we are not supposed to participate in magic as Catholics, but what about Halloween? Fantasy books? Magic shows? Games like Dungeons and Dragons? What's the line between bad magic that can harm our souls and something harmless and fun?"

📣 Catechism expert Dr. Scott Sollom from Franciscan University will be going LIVE each week to answer your questions about the Catechism as we journey through The Catechism in the Year podcast! Join us every Monday at 12:30pm ET.
